In this course we were asked to do two assignments. My First Assignment was to develop a WebQuest for a topic from my area of teaching (i.e. courses I taught). The assignment that I have done is in the following URL:
http://zunal.com/webquest.php?w=407284
My second assignment was to use the TIM (Technology Integration Matrix) that is discussed in the class to evaluate the level of technology integration in the case presented in the video at https://www.teachingchannel.org/video/discovery-through-technology :
A. I had to select the most three (3) visible characteristics of the learning environment.
B. For each characteristic, I had to decide which level of technology integration applies to the case. I had to support my decisions with instances from the video.
C. If I were the teacher in the case presented, I had to explain for ONE characteristic how I can move the level of technology integration to the next higher level in the TIM Matrix.
My answer for assignment 2 was the following:
- I think the characteristics of the learning environment of the video that I have seen is:
- Active Learning.
- Constructive Learning.
- Authentic Learning.
- For the Active learning, I think it has been applied the Adoption level of technology integration. Because the teacher makes the students to search the internet, go to the woods and look for different kinds of birds by using a telescope to see how the birds look like and making them draw birds in the classroom. Also, to search about birds through textbooks. It means here that teacher controls the type of technology and how to use it. This is all for a project about birds that they must accomplish.
For the constructive learning, I think it has been applied the Adaptation level of technology integration. Because the teacher has mentioned in a scene, when students went to a break and said that after the break, they are going to use the internet to search about birds. It means here that students are using technology tools independetly to facilitate construction of meaning. Also, means that they are exploring the use of internet as they are building knowledge of birds. Also, it is shown that students are searching about birds in textbooks. In addition, students were drawing the birds that they found in the woods. However, the teacher always shows her students drawings of birds of her last year students, drawings that are saved in her computer. Which she wants her students to build their knowledge.
For the authentic Learning, I think it has been applied the Entry level of technology integration. Because the teacher gave the students a task to write about birds they saw in the woods. Which they should write the date, how many birds they saw and bird gender etc. However, they should gather information and write them in their computer. So, they used computer or technology to complete assigned task. Also, the video has shown that each student is searching about different kinds of birds through a text book. However, the teacher here seems that she assigns work based on a predetermined curriculum.
- If I were the teacher instead of Marion Beltran teacher, which she applied the constructive learning that is assumed that is in the adaptation level. However, I would move it to higher level which is the infusion level of technology integration. By giving the students the freedom to choose the technology tool they want to search about birds. Whether its on textbooks or searching the internet in any website they see it suitable or whether going to the woods to see the birds.
